sometimes it is not the food

there’s one mamak stall in a lane (or Soi in Thai. haha!) between Lebuh Ampang & Jalan Tun HS Lee that is always jam packed with people during lunch time.

it was very near my ex-company but i did not had the chance to try it during my 2 years plus working in that area due to the reason above and also due to a rumours that my ex-colleague told me. not going to tell about it as it is just rumours though.

anyway, i only went to try it last year and revisited it recently.

this is the stall. it’s hard to miss it during lunch time as it will be full of people sitting and also standing while waiting for their order. and oh, the smoke AND….

the way the owner cooks! the constant spinning of the wok, the way he toss the vegetables, prawns and sauces makes me think that he is dancing instead of cooking. it’s a good entertainment while waiting for your food though.

and here is my plate of nasi goreng + telur mata. i opted for telur mata instead of prawns as i don’t feel like eating prawns that day. but let me assure you, they are generous with the prawns from what i see from plate of nasi goreng belonging to the guy next to me.

as for the taste, it’s good but not over-the-top good though. for RM4.50 with a limau ais. i wouldn’t complain though. in fact, i will come again!

as i was on half day leave that day, i got the privilege to spend more time at that stall. from what i noticed, most of the patrons are guys and mostly working with banks as office boy. not surprising considering the number of banks in that area.

i think this stall is very interesting not because of the food but rather as it is a melting pot for the banks’ office boys/clerks to meet up with each other. lots of topics you can hear from there. i heard lots of stories when i was sitting there for the past 1 hour. (*i heard, k? not eavesdrop. haha!). and i wonder why those clerks are so free to have long lunch…

so, with cheap food + in-house entertainment + gossips, it is worth going there for lunch. AND if you are working in that area and wondering why is your department’s clerk is disappearing from the office, you may try your luck here! haha!

*note, the best time to have your meals there is not during lunch hour. haha! and also during puasa time.

i remembered...

that you used to piggyback me to the clinic when i was sick (very often!) as a child

that you used to buy those 30sen durian flavoured snacks as a subsitute for durians as they were expensive back then

the way you pronounced my middle name as 'yee' instead of 'jee'

that you won't allow me to eat half boiled eggs in the morning (for reasons unknown to me) when i was younger

that you won't allow me to sit or stand on newspaper or books as it will make me stupid

that you loved to eat chee cheong fun and always have it for breakfast back in ipoh and a few times in KL

that you called our 4th prime minister as 'mata' instead of mahathir. but then again, you were illiterate.

i remembered being a spoilt grandson, being the youngest out of all grandchildren.

come to think of it, do i really deserved to be spoilt that much? i feel like i did not do anything to deserved it...

you will be sorely missed. till we meet again. goodbye...
