Video Games Live 17.04.2010

The 1st thing that i wanted to say is…

“I NEVER REALLY THOUGHT THAT THEY WILL COME TO MALAYSIA!!!’

All the while i only watch the performances in YouTube and wonder when will it come here to perform, if any…

That’s why my eyes got so wide the moment i saw that they are selling their ticket while i was walking in 1 Utama.

Tagged my GF along and two days later, the online ticket was bought

VGL

Seating was not bad, considering that is is around the 30th seat from the stage.

The date of the show was on the same day and venue of the PC Fair. You can say it is the day where the tech geeks and game freaks are packed in one place. Haha!

VGL 004 Took a photo before entering to watch the show.

VGL 007 This is where we were seated. Loud and clear. but it is a plenary hall though. sound seemed to be a bit muffled, but it did not dampen the mood!

VGL 011 Before the show started, we were served with a Cosplay competition.

VGL 017

and there were also a few classic games montage, Pacman and a tribute to Michael Jackson where they superimpose MJ in various classic games (yes, you heard it right!!!).

i did record most of the show and will post a few of it. but before i get fired for recording it, let me clarify this – we are permitted to do so.

Too lazy to post videos in my blog though, so i think i’ll just screen capture some of the video (not all videos, k? coz of the lazy factor. haha!) and post as photos here. haha!

mj Tribute to MJ

dk Medley of classic games. the crowd went crazy whenever some of the well-known games were out. Contra anyone? woo hoo!

MGS Metal Gear Solid, they even had a baddie and Snake (hiding in the box) on the stage. at the end of the song, instead of Snake, Tommy Tallarico came out! he’s been hiding in the box for at least 10 minutes.

GOW Nest is the God of War. the song never sound so great with strong vocals from Laura Intravia. makes me want to play the games again.

SI Next, Tommy picked an audience to play Space Invaders to win a BIG prize. that guy have to wear a tracker shirt and a Wii like thingy to move (literally) to shoot. unfortunately, he can win it in 2 minutes though.

there’s also a short documentary about the Father of video game and a ‘live’ Skype chat with him. but we all know that it has been pre-recorded. with Malaysia’s lousy internet service, it’s hard to believe the Skype conversation went without any lag.

Sonic Sonic anyone? at the start screen when the SEGA word comes out, the choir group started to sing out Sega~~~. i guess that bring out a lot of nostalgia to all Sega gamers now that it is obsolete now.

Zelda Flute This is one of my favourite part of the show. Laura Intravia came out again, this time as Link from Zelda where she plays flute! nice!

Zelda And of course, Zelda comes next!!!

VGL 037 20 minute break time’s up when the loading screen is over. time to camwhore.

VGL 038 caught up with two of the Cosplay participants. the Snake was a bit plump though haha! i’m grateful that he is willing to pose with me although i can see that he is rushing to do something else. thanks mate!!!

VGL 043 Time’s up!!! time for the 2nd half of the show!

but crap, i did not record the part where there’s a Guitar Heroes competition. i thought i pressed the record button, but hell no… damn!

kh The next song got everyone shouting Kingdom Hearts. The Disney characters will give us gamers a big clue.

WoW how about WoW for all of the MMORPG fans out there! the shouts we heard was like a war cry!!!

Snake Eater Norihiko Hibino also made a appearance on that day. came out with a saxophone and played MGS 3’s Snake Eater, which he himself composed for that game.

mario When we talk about video games, how can we forget Mario??!!! this is one game that introduced me to the very big world of video games.

VGL 044 what about Rockman (or Megaman for Americans)? those a one hard game to play back in the days.

halo i don’t know much about Halo coz it’s meant for Xbox. but it is worth a mention as it is one game that sells Xbox like hot cakes. atthe end of the performance, it got Jack Wall (the conductor) jumped out too! cool!

ff7 One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII is one of the anticipated performance on that night. it was a great performance (together with Tallarico’s Spidey guitar). but it was unfortunate that they can only put screens of cosplay players instead of shots of the gameplay due to the copyrights matter with Square Enix. the same happens to Kingdom Hearts earlier.

and the shows ends… NOT WITHOUT AN ENCORE!!!

light Tallarico came back, the lights are dimmed and he instructs us to light up our handphones. but what we had there was crazy. we had people taking out their PSPs, laptop and theres even a guy who held up his lightsabre! while doing that we were also instructed to sing to the tune of Mario. that was silly by the way. but FUN! haha!

castlevania 1st encore was a fast paced Castlevania accompanied with Tallarico’s guitar. this was epic, but unfortunately my Olympus camera went out of memory. in the end, i have to record a 1 minute clip from my Canon camera. shucks…

Chronotrigger this was the last performance – Chrono Trigger. i’m sure those who used to own Playstation missed this game a lot. in this final piece, everyone came out – Jack Wall with acoustic guitar, Tallarico with his Spidey guitar, Hibino with Saxophone & Intravia with flute.

end And the show ends with a bow!

but it is not really the end yet as there’s a meet and greet session thereafter.

VGL 060 long queue though. took me almost an hour for my turn…

VGL 056 but fret not, Mario is queuing in front of me. at least there is some entertainment.

VGL 057 and also this cross dresser. i think this is a character from Ragnarok, no? big boobs for a male. hahaha! the cosplayer were like a celebrity on that night. everyone wants to take a photo with them!

VGL 062 at last it’s my turn! woot! and Hibino-san is signing my PSP!

VGL 093 the end result. to date, i have not touched the PSP yet fearing that it might smudge the signatures. must find a clear case for it before i even touch my PSP!

that was an unforgettable night for me. i do hope that they will come back here again. Jack Wall said that they will come back (i’ve asked during the meet and greet session), but it’s hard to see it at the moment as the attendance is not that full on that day. maybe due to lack of promotion. and not much people heard of VGL too…

but, if they plan to come in the near future, i do hope that they do something new though.

AND REMEMBER TO BRING MARTIN LEUNG TO MALAYSIA! HIS PIANO RENDITION OF MARIO IS BEYOND COOL! YOU HEARD THAT? PEOPLE FROM VGL?! HAHAHA!

i’m proud to be a video gamer. people used tell me that it is a waste of time and it will affect my school and all that. but look at me, i did not get any worse off!

to quote from Tallarico “some people said video games are the cause of violence, i’d say KILL THEM ALL!”

hahaha!

VideoGamesLive FTW!!!

Video Games Live

I never heard of this word until my BF was all excited when he saw a banner in one of the store in 1 Utama Shopping Complex. He kept telling me: VGL is here! VGL is here in Malaysia for the 1st time! Haha... Then only i know that VGL is a show were they play video games songs. And the music are played by orchestra group. That WOWed me! Haha... Video Games & orchestra... I wondered how to connect those 2..

And so.. my question was answered last saturday night... i saw so big crowd at the entrance of the hall. i thought only gamers that look nerd nerd will fill the hall (oopss.. dun mean my BF is a nerd though) hehe... But then i was surprised to see so many professionals.. and parents, uncles & aunties and even artist (helped to take picture for me & BF) are there to enjoy themselves. Pardon me for being so shallow minded.. Hehe..

At 1st i thought listening to orchestra must be very quiet n formal. Aiks. All wrong! When video game & orchesta combine together... It was like a concert man!! Juz that nobody is singing.. Only music and electric guitar at times.. The atmosphere was great although i have no idea what musics they are playing.. i think the only video game music i knew was Tetris.. Wahaha.. Thanks to VGL i now know how Mario's song sounds like! ;-p

Although i did not fully enjoyed the whole "concert" but i am very sure the man beside me (my BF of coz) had a blast!! Haha!! He was just like a kid again! Haha! Of course the most rewarding thing is that he got his PSP signed by the 4 main person in VGL (Composers). Sorry no idea what's their full name.

Balloons? what balloons?

yeah, this post should’ve been done 3 weeks ago…

to make it short, this is what happened:

1. read in the newspaper that there was a Hot Air Balloon Festival in Putrajaya

2. fast forward a few weeks later, we drove to Putrajaya at around 11am to catch it

3. upon arrival, this is what we saw:

IMG_5199

Do you see any hot air balloons?

yeah, i’m shocked when i couldn’t find any.

after a while we managed to find it. but there’s only four. yes, FOUR hot air balloons.

i was in a state of shock coz after all the journey and with the freaking hot weather, there’s only four balloons in sight?

and they are only tandem balloons for ride. RM10 per ride. fly up to 10 meters and down. the whole duration is less than 5min. the tickets for the rides also sold out. aiks!

IMG_5196

there are only 4 hot air balloons, but i see there are hundreds of disappointed sweaty people just like me watching the tandem balloons… haha!

IMG_5193

in the end, we went to Alamanda to shop..the time spent at Alamanda is longer than in the Balloon Festival. haha!

**end note, actually the Balloons will only be flown out in two sessions, 8am and 6pm. going there in between will be a waste of time. i sure learnt my lessons.i hope the others will take note of this. i will go there again next year!
