Chinese New Year 2012

it’s the first chinese new year that we had together sine we got married.

for me, there’s nothing much other than to get ang pau (oh wait, that was before i get married. now i dread it!), eat till you get sick, meet up with family members and also small time gamble. haha!

other than the fact i’m married now (and i have to clean up the house), CNY will always be the same. as always, i will not be able to have reunion dinner with other family members as i will have errand to do on the eve.

this year, we decided to cook a grand lunch all by ourselves.

IMAG0209

yes, the portion above is only for two of us!

‘loh hon zai’ (will never forget the chinese cabbage!), oatmeal prawns, steamed salmon, ‘gu lou’ pork and lotus root + peanut soup!

the dishes above taste great! not bad at all as it was the first time fatpig cook the dishes.

it’s a good start for the water dragon year!

and also, i wish everyone HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! HAVE A GOOD YEAR AHEAD!

Chinese Wedding 11.06.2011

Our chinese wedding was way more chaotic. it started from the morning itself!

imagine running to the wedding car to get my wife only to remember that i have forgot to bring the fruit basket, only to…

SEE MY MOTHER PEELING AND CUTTING THE FRUITS IN THE KITCHEN!!!

my mother knows nuts about all these tradition thing. we did not hire any ‘dai kam jie’ as well though…

but that doesn’t mean that she can cut the fruits as the fruit basket was obviously nicely decorated.

anyway, i just bring what was left in the basket. which was half of the amount. haiz…

_MG_7494_Actual

you have no idea how much worried i am on that day

anyway, lets forget about the headache part (at the moment) and proceed to the next part.

_MG_7480_Actual

while the bride’s side are concocting something mischievous…

IMG_8722

there i am. oblivious to what will happen next…

IMG_8736

the evil females that deter me to get my bride

_MG_7559_Actual

while i have my own small army of ‘heng tais’.

_MG_7639_Actual

i’m going skip the playing part as it is mostly dancing, posing, skipping, Q&A session and eating. but i have to give kudos on the food they prepared. it’s good yo! the photo above don’t lie, right? haha!

_MG_7682_Actual

suffice to say, after all the hard work, i have managed to get the ‘prize’.

after all the tea-serving ceremony, it’s time to get my bride home!

IMG_8965

are we there yet?

IMG_9004

oh yes, we have!

_MG_8135_Actual

again, after all the tea serving ceremony at my side. it is time for cam-whoring. again, thanks to my ‘heng tai’ for their help. especially one of them who have to catch a flight immediately after helping me.

what’s next? the next part will the most headache part…

IMG_9148

yes… the chinese wedding part…

ever wondered why chinese weddings dinners will always be delayed? it is mostly due to the problems in the seating arrangements…

ours are made worse with mothers who screw up our arrangements which we planned for a months.

mothers knows best. or so they think… haiz..

ok. it’s over anyway, let’s move to happier moments!

IMG_9338

pouring the champagne…

IMG_9350

toasting to the guest! and oh, the emcee’s english was funny. not that she did it intentionally. just that her english was so bad it was funny! hahaha!

IMG_9351

yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm senggggggggggggggg!

IMG_9362

oh, wait, the glass is empty! haha!

_MG_8417_Dinner

cut the cr… oh! i mean cut the cake!

IMG_9377

having a good laugh on the video presentation!

_MG_8552_Dinner

more booze session! not that i’m a good drinker though.

all in all, it was a happy moment although there were hiccups here and there.

it doesn’t end there though. for there is still a long way to go!

Church Wedding – 04.06.2011

due to various reasons (actually only one – laziness), i have finally dragged my ass to blog.
ok, back to my topic – our Indian/church wedding.
one word to describe it – CHAOS!!!
i was late to arrive to church due to reasons which i don’t feel like putting in here.
anyway back to happy stuff. once we are in the church, everything goes according to plan. must be the rehearsal that we have done earlier.

then it is time for dinner. this is where the chaotic part comes in again. this time in the form of PA system. gah!!! ok, forget about it and lets just enjoy the photos

of chicken rice and burst tyre

warning. super long post ahead!

went to kuala kangsar immediately after work on friday to settle some payment and errands last week.

since we are going to pass by Ipoh anyway, why not make a stopover at the famous Lou Wong ban sprout chicken rice? it’s been a while since we went there anyway.

IMAG0462

hmm.. did they change their signboard?

IMAG0461

friday night crowd is not as as crowded as compared to weekends. but still the crowd i still there. and the crowd is not just chinese.

IMAG0460    and the food has arrived! chicken serving for two, a plate of bean sprout, 5 pork balls and two plates of rice. including 2 herbal tea, it cost us less than RM24.00.

it’s dirt cheap considering it is quite a big portion! the chicken rice stall in KL cost more. and the portion is way smaller.

after more than a year since we ate there, has anything changed?

yes. but not in a positive way…

somehow i think they have deteriorate a little. the chicken is not as smooth as what i had previously. lucky the the yummy taste is still there.

but my real disappointment come from the pork balls. to be frank, i’ve tasted better pork balls. but the soup is beyond terrible. it is sweet. but not due to the natural sweetness from the soup base or meat. instead it is more like due to added sugar. aiks!

i hope that they will not use this same soup base if people ordered ‘hor fun’ instead of rice.

i may be wrong. correct me if i’m wrong. anyway, it depend of people’s own preference i guess

if you asked me whether i will got to Lou Wong again, i will say yes! but not for the pork balls. at least until they change the soup base.

anyway, we continued our journey to Kuala Kangsar. little do we know that the worst are yet to come.

as we pass through Menora Tunnel (located between Jelapang and Kuala Kangsar), there will be a series of speed breaker (more like suspension breaker!).

and suddenly BAM!!!!!

the car in front of us hit something. less than 2 seconds later, it is our turn. there’s no way we can avoid that due to the speed we are travelling in.

what did we hit? we have no idea till now. all we know that it is yellow in colour, looks like an overturned wok and it is very solid, almost like a rock. must have dropped from a lorry due to the long speed breaker…

not long after, we saw more than 10 cars parking aside the emergency lane checking their cars. we continued our journey but something was amiss when the car was a bit noisy and shaky.

we stopped by the emergency lane not long after. and boy, that was scary as the emergency lane was very narrow. imagine buses and lorries wheezing past you inches away and they too flashing lights and horn at you as they are afraid of hitting us as well.

IMAG0463

and we are only 12km from reaching our destination…

with no experience in changing tyres (we are unable to change anyway as the lane is too narrow to change alone), we decided to call the emergency guys from PLUS using the emergency phones located along the highway.

but then again, i never used those phones before. when i pressed the only button on the phone, there’s only one sound – static buzzing. oh great, the phone is not working, or so i think?

with the dark forest beside me, it reminds me of horror stories i heard in the internet. my wife is only afraid of getting hit by other vehicles. she got a point though.

anyway, after 30 minutes, we managed to get hold of the PLUS guys through our handphone. apparently they received a lot of calls in that area too.

changing tyres are not an easy feat even to those guys, imagine changing the tyres while facing the traffic. and i even have to direct other vehicles via flashlights to avoid being hit.

the next morning, when we went to the tyre shop to check the damage, there were three noticeable cracks

IMAG0465 IMAG0466 IMAG0464

and the total damage for the tyre? RM140. damn!

and we think that the pork balls are lousy…

at last we are safe though.
