Sin Yee Kee Beef Noodles

we decided to stop over at Seremban for our brunch before continuing our way to Port Dickson last week.

there’s only one thing in our mind and that is :

IMAG0044

yes, beef noodles. that is what Seremban is famous for. since everyone seems to talk about this beef noodle stall in Seremban pasar, decided to give it a try.

IMAG0043

i think the one that i order is sweet sauce beef noodles. there’s no beef balls here but there a slices of beef strips. the gravy is very thick, thicker than ‘loh mee’ gravy. and surprisingly, they peanuts in the noodles as well, giving it a crunchy texture to the noodles. I've never tasted beef noodles with this kind of gravy, so i can’t make any comparison. but it does take time to get used to this kind of gravy as i can’t seem to decipher some of the taste in it…

IMAG0045

as for GF, it is beef ball noodles for her. she omitted the tripe though. ouch, she should have leave it for me! she said the beefy taste is very strong. but for me it taste ok for me. beef noodles have strong beefy taste anyway. another thing different is that they put in ‘ham choy’ (is it called salted vege or preserved vege in English?) in their soup, giving it a slight pickle taste. as for their beef balls? top notch! springy and crunchy!

and do you notice one more thing different between the normal beef noodles and the one we had? it uses ‘lai fun’. the same noodles people use for asam laksa. looks special, but for me, it kind of lose out as there’s not much texture.

price for each serving is RM5, which is kind of pricey for Seremban. but if it is good (the beef ball noodles is GOOD!), it is worth the price (and also the drive).

so go on and taste for yourself. Sin Yee Kee is located in Pasar Besar Seremban. stall no. 748.

Hokkien Mee and Air Mata Kucing

ok. it’s Mid-Autumn Festival and i have nothing much to do after work. and… i’m all alone for dinner.

what better place to go than Petaling Street, right?

nah, that’s not the 1st place that i wanted to go initially but since today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, some shops are not open.

hence, this is where i ended up to.

IMAG0113

from such an extreme angle, it’s hard to see the name of this shop. but anyone who frequented Petaling Street will know that it is ‘Kam Lin Kee’ just by looking at the background – the ever busy cook with the non-stop ‘clik-clak’ stir-fry sound, the large quantities of yellow noodles and the large numbers of Myanmar workers (with walkie-talkies) in red uniform taking orders…

for the uninitiated, ‘Kam Lin Kee’ is very famous for this :

IMAG0112

Hokkien Mee. or some of you may address it as Hokkien Char (Hokkien Fry).

The portion is quite big. but of course, it is proportionate with the price (RM6 for a single portion). i remember it used to be RM4.50 for the same portion though.

the noodles may look oily but it is a bit dry when i had ate it earlier. but it is still acceptable. surprisingly, for a portion this big, there is only one prawn in a plate and not much pork. luckily they are not stingy with the sotong, lard and liver.

it’s hard to find Hokkien Mee with pig liver nowadays as i guess due to the health conscious society. i’m not a big fan of offal, but for those who are into ‘spare parts’, this is a good news!

one thing that i like about their Hokkien Mee is something that most of the ‘dai chow’ failed miserably – to get rid of the alkaline taste of the noodles.

‘Kam Lin Kee’ excels in this part. there’s not even a hint of the alkaline taste. instead, you are rewarded with a flavourful taste complemented with the crunchiness of lard.

with another stall just a few metres from where i am seated, i’m tempted to head to my new destination :

IMAG0116

yes, the famous Air Mata Kucing in the intersection of Petaling Street. i have no idea what made it so famous it taste just like any other Air Mata Kucing.

my guess?

1. most of the tourist/local got tired and hot after a long walk in Petaling Street and the moment they tasted the cooling drink, it must have been the greatest drink that they ever had.

2. Or it must be plain good Feng Shui considering that it is located in an intersection.

3. or maybe both???

IMAG0117

here’s my bounty. RM1.80 for a hot one or RM1.20 for a cold one. and yes, it seems like the best drink that i ever had (after a long walk from Jalan Masjid India to Petaling Street earlier. haha!).

they are generous with the ‘Longans’ but you would have to dig deeper if you ordered a cold one as they are ‘generous’ with the ice as well. haha!

but then again, it is a good drink to end my food journey on a lonely Mid-Autumn Festival…

Lazy man Spaghetti

just like what the title suggest, we decided to make a quick meal instead of the usual oh-so-elaborate meal.

IMAG0033

ingredients are as follows:

1. pasta

2. chopped hotdogs (it is a lazy man’s spagghetti, hence the hotdogs instead of the usual minced meat)

3. 1 can of Prego Tomato + 1 can of Prego Mushroom

4. Tom yam paste (yeah, i got bored of the usual white sauce + red sauce combination)

5. Garlic + mixed herbs + other seasonings

and oh, from the photo above, i guess it’s time to change the water filter…

as usual, cook the pasta, stir fry the hot dogs, add in the sauce, the seasonings, some water and lastly let it simmer.

the end result?

this :-

IMAG0035

because the tom yam paste was added, there will be slight sourish tom yam taste in the pasta dish. it will definitely not spicy, no matter how much paste you dunk into the sauce. just that it will be more sour the more you put it.

and all done in 30 minutes. not bad for a lazy man’s spaghetti, huh?

Goodbye 7610, hello Wildfire!

IMAG0031

time sure flies. you have been my phone for the last 4 years. ok, your exact age should be 5 years old since my sister handed you to me after a year of using.

you are the first camera phone that i have (albeit only 0.3mp) and loads of other functions which i never had before in my previous phones (think Bluetooth!). and yeah, you are one of the high-tech phone back then!

but of course, after years of wear and tear and and your ageing hardware/software/battery, you are now deemed obsolete.

for one, opening an sms takes almost forever. ok, it’s a bit exaggerated. but the last time i counted, it takes around 13 seconds.

imagine having to charge your battery twice a day and needed to plug in the charger to the phone if i needed to make a more-than-5-minutes call… that is a bit crazy. how many times have i changed your battery? twice or thrice?

now even my messaging tone has gone kaput…

GF had said i will be the last person she will call as i will not be able to make a long call (or even making a call) as your battery life is ridiculously short and i can’t even received sms notification.

my longest record of having you without plugging the charge on? 1 sms sent, 5 sms received and 1 2 minute call that i made before you completely ran out of juice.

but to be fair, i sure treated you rough over the years. it’s very obvious from the scratches and dents all over you body. i’ve dropped you so frequent that you’ve tasted all kinds of floor. the most will be tar road. i i even remember throwing you at the wall a few times as i was frustrated at other stuff. i’m very sorry about that…

alas, it was time for you to go. but i’m proud to have you as my phone for the past 4 years. there’s so many fond memories coming back to me when i was deleting some of the old sms (more than 2000 in it. that was one of the cause of the lag). again, sorry for not taking a good care of you over the years.

and now, you will have a good successor in the form of HTC Wildfire.

DSC00059

not to worry, he will take a good care of me. just like you do back then.

and yes, i will promise to take a good care of your successor too!
